ClickUp is one of the leading project management platforms right now. Highly intuitive and user-friendly, it is suitable for any organization to optimize productivity and keep everything on track. Although it’s built with efficiency in mind, managing it can become quite time-consuming.

If you find yourself doing repetitive tasks on ClickUp, you'll love this article! We'll talk about ClickUp's native automation features and exciting third-party tools. Let’s get started.

These are but a few of the automations you can do with Bardeen:

An overview of ClickUp automations

What sets ClickUp apart from most other project management platforms is that it has built-in automation features! The ClickUp Automations allow you to automate repetitive tasks in ClickUp. Automations like this:

You can add an automation to a space, folder, or list. Just click the Automate button (with a robot icon) in the upper-right corner of the window, and the Add Automation button from the drop-down list. The pop-up window will be divided into three tabs: Browse, Manage, and Usage.

In the Browse tab, you can explore many pre-built automations grouped into categories like Creation, Dates, and Priorities. Here are a few examples.

  • “When task created then apply template”
  • “When due date arrives then change list”
  • “When priority changes then change assignee”

If none of the templates match your use case, feel free to build your own! Go to the Manage tab and click on Create automation. Remember, all automations share three common components: triggers (like due date changes, assignee removed, and task created), conditions (like status, tag, and due date), and actions (add a comment, change assignees, and webhook call).

If you want to connect your ClickUp automation with an external app, you can add a webhook to your automation. ClickUp also has integrations with apps like BugSnag, Calendly, GitHub, Twilio, and HubSpot for automations.

The Automations feature is included in all plans, but if you exceed the usage limits of your current plan for the month, you can purchase add-ons. All of this information can be found in the Usage tab.

The automation feature might seem quite exciting, but we’ve only scratched the surface here; it would take an entire book to explore all the possibilities of ClickUp Automations. Check out their automations overview page for more info.

ClickUp also offers a time tracker with their Chrome extension. You can sync data with apps like TimeDoctor, and it’ll allow you to attach the time you track with a task added to ClickUp! It also offers timesheets, detailed reporting, and time notes. Since it’s a free native feature, definitely consider trying it out.

There are also some third-party apps you can check out for ClickUp automations, Bardeen, Zapier, and Make being among the best ones. Let’s talk about Bardeen.
