In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to use the Magic Box in Bardeen to quickly build and edit automations using natural language. The Magic Box is a powerful AI assistant that helps you create workflows without writing any code.
You’ll see how to start from a blank canvas, use the Magic Box to build a playbook, modify it, and make advanced changes like replacing or adding steps.
Chapter I: Start a New Playbook
- Click the Bardeen icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the extension.
- On the Bardeen homepage, scroll down to the “Create Playbook” section.
- Click “Start from a blank canvas” to open a new playbook builder.
Chapter II: Access the Magic Box
- At the bottom of the blank canvas, locate the “Modify with AI” input field.
- This is the Magic Box, Bardeen’s AI assistant that helps you build and edit automations using plain language.
Chapter III: Build Your First Automation with the Magic Box
- In the Magic Box, type:
Scrape LinkedIn and add to Google Sheets - Press Enter and wait a few seconds for the AI to generate the playbook.
What Happens:
- Step 1: Bardeen adds a LinkedIn scraping step using the “LinkedIn profile” template.
- Step 2: Bardeen adds a Google Sheets step to insert the scraped data.
The data from the first step is automatically mapped to the correct fields in the second step.
Note: You’ll need to connect your Google Sheets account and select the specific sheet where the data should go. This part is left for you to customize.
Chapter IV: Replace a Step Using the Magic Box
- In the Magic Box, type:
Replace Google Sheets with HubSpot - Press Enter and wait for the update.
What Happens:
- The Google Sheets step is removed.
- A new HubSpot step is added to create or update a contact.
- An intermediate step is added to split the full name into first and last name, which is required by HubSpot.
Tip: Bardeen automatically adds data cleanup steps when needed, based on the requirements of the app you're using.
Chapter V: Add a New Step to the End of the Playbook
- In the Magic Box, type:
Also add Google Sheets to the end of the playbook - Press Enter and wait for the update.
What Happens:
- The existing steps (LinkedIn scraping, name splitting, and HubSpot contact creation) remain unchanged.
- A new Google Sheets step is added at the end to store the same data.
Note: You can now have the data both in HubSpot and in Google Sheets.
Chapter VI: Remove a Step from the Playbook
- In the Magic Box, type:
Remove the Google Sheets step - Press Enter and wait for the update.
What Happens:
- The Google Sheets step is removed.
- The rest of the playbook remains intact.
